The highway that forges the way to the cross is one paved with humility.
Kings of our earth today, demand service, demand attention, demand respect.
Christ served by washing his disciples feet to show the way of the cross was one of service.
Lenten Reading
Jesus knew that the Father had put him in complete charge of everything, that he came from God and was on his way back to God. So he got up from the supper table, set aside his robe, and put on an apron. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the feet of the disciples, drying them with his apron. When he got to Simon Peter, Peter said, “Master, you wash my feet?” Jesus answered, “You don’t understand now what I’m doing, but it will be clear enough to you later.” Peter persisted, “You’re not going to wash my feet-ever!” Jesus said, “If I don’t wash you, you can’t be part of what I’m doing.” (John 13:3-8 MSG)
I think it is really hard in our society today for us to accept Christs service.
We want to be rock stars who change the world, we want to be the Saviours who make the grade, we want people to revere us as the champions.
To allow Christ to serve us though, is a foreign concept in our everyday.
He actually wants to serve us. He wants to help us, set us free, bring freedom ad friendship and so often we are not open to his advances because of pride.
We don’t listen to his suggestions because we believe we don’t need help.
We hold back because we don’t feel worthy.
The fact is we are not worthy but the way of the cross is a road marked with servanthood.
Christ is always up to something in our lives, but are you allowing him to move.
He wants to speak? He wants to encourage? He wants to serve you?
Are you listening this Easter, to the Saviour who came to serve.
This is the highway of holiness.
