miss agustina

Place: Melbourne

Poison: Water

Favourite Things: my little laptop that has been on an adventure.

This week, I had the absolute honor and privilege of meeting one of my compassion sponsor children in Jarkata, Indonesia.

Her name is Agustina, her nickname being Tina, it was just one of those memorable days. A day I will never forget.

To see someone who I have written too for 5 years without ever meeting, alone is such a breathtaking experience. However to be confronted with the reality of her poverty and the slum that surrounds her as she walks everyday to school, took the wind completely out of my sails.

We truly have no idea how much we take the little things, like fresh water, a school with progressive education, waste removal that is santitary, a Dad who actually sticks around when the going gets tough…These children who are born into poverty, the lack of money is just the starting point, its the opression and depression that surounds and overtakes their lives, which is so completly unjust.

Miss agustina, I think of you everyday. I will never forget you. You are in my prayers and you have impacted my life much more than anything I can do for you.

Deeply retrospective of the 15 July 2009
