The extremes of culture shock one faces in international travel is bad enough, but multiply it one hundred fold, in the same country when the levels of poverty and materialism are so evidently smashed together.
The Thai way is so chilled out and laid back, so seeing the money hungry, billboard clad consumerism of ‘the West’ being touted as a compass point for success breaks my heart.
Walking through the slums of Klong Toey today, with echoes of televisions sounds booming, we encountered kids who had been wearing the same clothes all week, (not because they wanted too!).
