capture 2: chapter 30

village life

There is an African proverb that says ‘It takes a whole village to raise a child’ and as I roam this place of departure and arrival I am starkly reminded of this fact. Face upon face, person after person, I am inspired amidst the sea of travelling companions.

If only these walls could tell of the emotional tales endured, many novels would flood the market.

capture 2: chapter 29

watercoloured

From the moment I woke up the world around me looked a little brighter. I was officially one day older. I made a commitment when I turned thirty, that I would never be ashamed of turning another year older and would celebrate my years in style.

And that we did!

capture 2: chapter 28

toxic reflection

Space is the great unraveller.

When you think you have everything sorted, you realise how carnal you truly are.

It is in the moments between night and dawn that your thoughts bring you to a place of toxic reflection. The blank canvas that stillness creates is so imperative for a life of purpose; yet you find the colours and influences in your life speak loudest in this place.

Darkness or light, you choose?

capture 2: chapter 27

nature calling

I am undone. I have spent a day in meditation, prayer, reflection and in peace and I am nearly still. The nature here is breathtaking and my heart has stilled itself to a pace that is much slower than normal.

We think that saving the world is about busyness and competency, but no one can do anything without a good amount of balance and rest.

Today I walked slowly amongst the tropics here and spent the afternoon on a kayak and then sat in meditation and I am nearly quiet.

Walking to breakfast this morning was a lesson in nature, from frogs jumping onto the pebble-lined path, to lilies that I hadn’t even noticed when we arrived, life began to take on a different hue.

capture 2: chapter 26

road trip

After an early start with church and great friends, the road trip of a lifetime began. We rushed to catch the bus, my coffee dripped all over my clothes and my four days of rest began.

Kym and I decided that some ‘r & r’ was very much in order after a year of long hard, frustrating work and much tragedy. We jumped on a bus for one hundred and fifty Baht (less than 10 bucks Aussie) and our four-day summer retreat began.
