grey’s anatomy

Place: My Office

Poison: Water

Favourite Things: Fresh Eggs from my ma…

My friend Gai passed onto me a Dvd of grey’s anatomy because since shifting to a new time slot of Sunday nights, I have not been able to get my weekly fix.

I’m not a huge fan of television, but since Kym (my bestest friend) has shifted back home, I have had a big hole in the social architecture of my life and tv seems to have been filling it!

Grey’s anatomy is such a great show. The primary theme in each episode reflects the main anthem of my generation. Am I good enough? Does somebody/ anybody notice me? Guilty or not guilty…

One show that I watched late last night really impacted me about father’s and daughters. The protaganist of the show Meredith Grey continually was bumping into her estranged Father and it meant she had to deal with this demon from the past. Then George (the soft, cuddly, everybodies his friend doctor) was grappling with the heart wrenching effect of a life time of damage on his fathers body and his consequential death.

Grey’s Anatomy, although just a show captures the heart of a generation and aptly reflects struggles that plauge my everyday.

Why do we get drawn into the stories of others…

Nice

CHANGE YOUR WORLD

Place: My Office

Poison: Easter Eggs!

Favourite Things: Sneaking Easter Eggs early!!

There is this one song that whenever I hear it, it totally unravels my heart and its one true desire.

Not in a forceful, controlling way, but in a Beatitudes, I have been extended so much grace type of way…I live to change your world. The song talks about people who dwell and survive daily poverty, whilst we spend a hundred dollars on a night out with the girls without even thinking!

I live to make a difference in people’s lives who have less than enough to survive. Especially children who are not responsible for the circumstances that they are born into.

I live to change the world, one life at a time, by living a generous and thought filled existence.

Watch this video and see what rises in your heart to bring change to this world.

Jane Austen’s guide to people

Place: My Office

Poison: Coke Zero

Favourite Things: home made lunches…

Our next hertime event is titled ‘Jane Austen’s guide to people’. Hertime events are always so much fun but I’m so looking forward to high tea, scones and jam, orchestral pieces and quirky monolouges.

I am on my way though to search out Pride and Predjudice and Emma, to find the cutest, funniest and the most striking scenes.

blokes

Poison: Diet Coke

Favourite Things: White Leather travel bag

Today has been one of the cruisiest event days in years. Normally the day of an event, is filled with stress, many phone calls, last minute problems and craziness.

However, my team has grown so much in the past year and have done such an amazing job of arranging the finer details of the event.

This event is a special one. Hundreds (750 2night) of blokes in one room. Beer, hot dogs, fart jokes, chips, bands, blowing stuff up, marriage man. Its our fourth one of its kind, but I’ll never get used to the strange feeling of being one of the only women in the room.

Unfortunatly for me, I don’t enjoy it. In fact each event I am overwhelmed by the feeling of self conciousness, when I am not really the self concious type. Being surrounded by hundreds of guys is actually really scary for women.

Not sure whether it is the testosterone, the lack of galiantry, the smell…Not sure.

I so wish though, I could walk away feeling encouraged, not gawked at, or even paid attention to, because the night is absolutely not about us. But the confusion for me is, why don’t women walk away from encounters with men feeling secure and okay about themselves.

Not sure about this one, but am longing to be surrounded by men, friends and lovers who create a safe environment where we (women) feel okay about ourselves and who we are.

Confused…
