Favourite Things: The window in my new office the park…
Something about ikea that just excites my soul…Is it the $2 hot dogs, is it the refillable soda, nah I’ve just come from America, so Australian Ikea vibes is slightly pitiful…Its the funky furniture, the colour red, the silver, the beech…
We are shifting into our new venue for our north service this weekend…So me and Jen went shopping galore.
Love the random clocks, love the life span of the stuff, usually the caused by the crappy people who put the stuff together (usually me)
Anyways, lovin Ikea, what would we creatives with no money do without it.
Just had a conversation re: life being black and white, versus grey! Our office and organisation is going through the roof right now, and with much growth, and with much expansion comes a lot of grey!
Org charts that once worked, now faulter, communication systems that were great for a smaller staff/ organisation etc now are irrelevant. Life as you know it changes and what was black and white turns grey.
So as a creative person in the midst of change, what do you do to maintain a sense of direction and a clarity of purpose? My thought for today is to keep asking questions.
Questions are the sign of a great leader, a great friend, a great creative. Someone who doesn’t ignore the grey, but tries to colour it slightly with a new shade of white or black and bring it into some semblance of clarity!
Life not black and white, but is different shades of grey…Great questions bring clarity into the black and white colours, bringing a semblance of direction.
I love the word linger. Its rarely used but there is something so mystic and etherial about it. Stay a while, float, be, wait, engage, smile, think, LINGER.
In our world today so many people fling their way through life, rushing from one appointment to the next, one meeting to the next, one task till the next. However whilst bending over in the downward dog pose today at Body Balance, I was thinking we need to create a culture of lingering.
How much more would our children feel the love, how much more would waiting in queues not become such an issue, how much more would driving become an adventure rather than an ordeal.
When your at home, try turn off the phone, turn off the tv, maybe put a bit of music on, but just linger. Linger in your house, walk around, breathe deep and just be.
How about the next party you go too, find a compfy chair, open your heart up to the possibilities of someting new happening, don’t worry about the babysitter, what your wearing, who’s coming to the party, just LINGER.
It’s a stress relieving, life changing thought.
On one of the planes recently I watched the movie ‘A Good Year’ and it was about Russell Crowe, a mean spirited, hard core business, cut throat jerk, who inherits a vineyard in the south of France, who begins a journey of learning to LINGER.
Dance if you need to, turn off the internal dialouge if you need to, shake off the feelings of having to do something…if you need to…
Well today is Valentines Day and its a beautiful day filled with much fond memories of my amazing friend Coli and the gang of weary travellers who are connected accross Australia and the seas!
Today, mid morning our lovely Maori friend went home to meet with a big bright smile her maker. Its uncanny that she went home on Valentines Day, because she was so quirky and filled with love. V-Day for me now is Coli Day and she will be forever in our hearts.
A shout out to all my crew her know her well and those who only crossed her path briefly but were forever impacted by her fresh sense of fun and niavity. Her love of all things surfy in clothes, the people at City surf whom she worked with but mostly her gorgeous babies- Christian, Nicodemus and Justice.
I will never forget you, even though we have only known each other for a few years, you impacted me.
I remember that day in the Italian resteraunt and Justice sang akuna mata as she wet her pants!! I remember you lying in my back room at lesser street when you flew in last Easter. Remember Claudine running around in a Freddo Cadbury character suit?
That day before I flew to Lebanon in June last year when we had a Gloria Jeans and talked about life. You and Dale and the amazing cafe you run, the way you cooked Oly Bollan doughnuts that first day I went to your apartment, with so many randoms sitting on the couch and you cooking for everyone.
You are a woman of great character, great wisdom and a niavity which is breathtaking!
