capture 2: chapter 20

mystery

There are some parts of everyday life that will always remain a mystery to me.

Despite this, I am challenged to try and understand them, to make a small difference.

There are crazy mysteries like; why men have nipples, why our appendix was created or where red hair colouring came from.

Then for example the more haunting ones like genital mutilation, jihad bombings and why prostitution is accepted in many countries still today.

This afternoon we spent a few hours with the most amazing couple from New Zealand that work with prostitutes in Patpong, downtown Bangkok.

capture 2: chapter 19

generational

A day at the beach was truly redefined today. My past beach experiences will never be the same after a dose of Thai beach experiences.

Thai beach culture and Australian beach culture couldn’t be any farther apart.

Row upon row of umbrella, protected fully clad, every inch of skin covered to protect skin from gaining any colour.

For Thai people the ultimate compliment is to be told you are white and when children want to taunt one another they call each other ‘black or dark’.

capture 2: chapter 18

I am smiling still from a fabulous day of shopping, crazy taxi rides and chilled dinner parties. We aimed to conquer the Chatachuk markets, but we didn’t even come close. The markets were insane, so full of people and we lost one another so many times.

There were bargains to be had and crazy sights to be seen. Block after block, row after row, t-shirt after t-shirt we witnessed a buying frenzy.

capture 2: chapter 17

i am

Just the thought of coming home to a hot shower was like a hit for an addict awaiting their next fix of drugs. My feet are swollen, I have heat rash, I have mosquito bites everywhere and today was a tough one.

I am not sure why I struggled today, no particular reason, but from the minute I woke, to lunch, till I came home, I found myself waning.

Some may say it’s the tropical heat that clouds your mind, others the time away from the desk that is now actually catching up with me. I’m not sure, but my responses today make me wonder how often I think about myself.

capture 2: chapter 16

family ties

I grew up with two mums; one called Patty, one Eileen.

My maternal mother is an identical twin and they are inseparable.

They spent the day together in Australia it is there birthday today, visiting one of their teachers from high school that is really sick with cancer. Today is just a normal day to them though; they are never far from one another. Whenever I find one, I find the other. Not just twins but friends also.

Being so far away from my mums on their birthday is not a normal occurrence for me and I have thought about them all day.
