12 days of messiness!

Place: my cousins outside lounge

Poison: iced white Christmas T2 tea

Favourite things: lazy long lunches, that turn into dinners!

Happy Messy Christmas!

Last night Haydn spoke a Christmas message at our church service about having a messy Christmas!

Not one with too many drinks, not one where we forget what’s happening, no its all about having a Christmas that’s not perfect.

We dream of kink free Christmas’, one where it snows if we are in a winter climate, one where no one fights, one where we get the perfect presents, food, weather and conversation.

However the first Christmas so many years ago was far from perfect. A baby born in a manger (one that animals had fed out of!) I’m struggling to think about putting my baby in a cot that’s from Target…

A unmarried mother.

A stable instead of a nursery.

Yet it was a holy night…

Holiness and perfection do not co-exist. We think perfection in relationship and moments is all about lack of stress, but sometimes the messiest times can be the best.

Today Christmas day, our car has broken down. And I just reminded myself! Happy Messy Christmas.

Not everything is perfect. Even Christmas…

12 days captured

Messy Christmas everyone

Eleven opportunities for the little things

Place: home

Poison: green iced tea with ginger

Favourite things: trying Jamie Oliver recipes…

Okay, okay- you know the song, I don’t need to write it out again…On the eleventh day of Christmas my true love gave to me eleven opportunities for the little things…etc etc

Last night we pulled out the record player and dropped some Christmas tunes, invited my sister and mum over, made icecream sundaes and started Christmas a little early.

As we were waiting, we turned on the TV, I made a roast and we watched Jamie Oliver’s Christmas special.

One of his recipes was a Christmas icecream pudding.

We have a Russian friend with us for Christmas and he is very new at the whole idea, so off we went to the shops this morning and brought the ingredient and away we went.

As we were preparing, I took a moment and thought, ahhh the mess, my house is clean, what if it doesn’t work…

Every excuse under the sun…

And then a little expectation arose.

And we seized the opportunity.

Hilarious!

I have the smallest kitchen, in a little beach shack and I made a Christmas pudding with a Russian body builder, who was smashing around utensils and plates.

And I couldn’t have had more fun.

Christmas Eve…

A place of opportunity.

Seize them and celebrate life and love.

Turn off the Ebenezer Scrooge and catch the opportunities that manifest.

They may never come again.

You never know what next year will bring…

Don’t miss the small things, the little things, that create lasting memories.

Christmas is won and lost in the little things.

Conversations with Granma on the couch, drinks poured with enemies, sharing encouragement to the unloved.

Live loud in the small things this Christmas.

It only comes once a year…

Merry little things

Nine counts of silence

Place: home

Poison: Malaysian chocolates

Favourite things: my new Christmas mug!

On the ninth day of Christmas my true love gave to me nine counts of silence, eight opportunities of trust, seven transformed lives, six dazzling light displays, five thrills of hope, four life traditions, three doses of patience, two random acts of kindness and a place to express my creativity.

Today is my first day of nearly holidays (I’m working on Christmas eve for a few hours! But I don’t really count church as working…)

I am needed to remain close by, because we have contractors doing our bathroom, but wanting some peace and quiet so I have been accross the road at the beach.

Ahhh, peace.

Ahhh, quiet.

Is that really possible 3 days before Christmas?

Yes I believe it is. Take the words from silent night and find a place to reflect and rest.

Silent night; when everyone is asleep or resting, walk outside and look up.

Holy night; take a breathe and count 9 things you are grateful for.

All is calm; another deep breath.

All is quiet; there are moments of silence, we just need to be ready to surrender to them.

Round yon virgin mother and child; think about what it would have been like to be the mother of a world changer. (In fact maybe you are?)

Holy infant so tender and mild; reflect on the innocence of children.

Sleep in heavenly peace; how much do we all long for this? It is available to all of us, however we just need to learn to quiet ourselves more and embrace the silence.

Silent night

Ahhh

six lights a shining

Place: my bed

Poison: chocolate and pistachio nuts

Favorite things: our bathroom getting tiled

On the sixth day of Christmas my true love gave to me six dazzling light displays, five thrills of hope, four life traditions, three doses of patience, two random acts of kindness and a place to express my creativity.

Tonight is the family night annual lights display tour. I love a house dressed up in lights, because I know how much effort the owners have gone too.

Watching Christmas movies growing up, we all know the Griswells and their terrible troubles in lighting up the neighborhood… With my levels of clutsy-ness I would be a danger to my own health if I even tried to scale our roof to hang a string of fairyness!

As we drive together, I am always stunned by the twinkle and the delight in our children’s eyes, as they gaze upon the beauty.

I believe that the greatest light of all at this time of year is the story of the star, that lead the shepherds and Kings to the birth place of a baby. A special baby that changed the course of history.

Imagine if our lives shined so brightly, that people couldn’t help to stop and stare, to point and delight at the beauty of what shines out of our hearts. In my life unfortunately I speak to quickly rather than live my life shining what I believe, leading others towards inspiration.

Lets commit to shining brightly this Christmas, letting our light affect and impact all. Without words.

Smile

The 5RM shop

Place: the wedge wood apartments KL

Poison: nothing

Favorite things: setting up Pavs new home

We have spent the last two days, setting up our friend Pavel’s new home. So exciting to go into Ikea with someone elses credit card and create a home space.

I love creating homes, its the artwork, the pillows, the cups and saucers, the candles, the bits and bobs that I believe really speak the character of the owners.

It has been such a pleasure to just spend time loving on our friend who is far away from his homeland of Russia.

As we were walking through the shops, I stumbled upon the most amazing little shop. One that I will never forget.

Everything in the shop is imported from Japan. Its not a small shop, around the size of a local supermarket.

The japanese are so inventive, creative and down right quirky, so as I perused the aisles of this random happenstance I was spell bound.

A shop full of very random quirky little things.

But guess what?

Everythinng was 5 ringets, which is around $1.25 Aussie.

I was completely shocked when I got to the counter and so wanted to go back again for a second round of shopping.

You know when $2 shops in australia have really useless things.

I promise the $1.25 shop all imported from Japan has the coolest stuff.

I brought some charcoal face cleanser, that foams up and “the charcoal draws the impurities out of the skin”, Charl brought a foot pumice stone, which he is mighty pleased with and also I brought some liquid eyeliner for $1.25.

I know so boring, but its the little things that make you laugh and intrigue you, when you don’t have to worry about the everydayness of life whilst on holidays.

I am getting a little bored however and very ready to jump into married life.

The wedding is pretty much arranged, but the creative juices are needing expression somehow and the wedding seems to be getting its residue.

Cant wait to come home.

but will struggle to say goodbye to the $1.25 shop from Japan.

Peace out!
