Goodness

whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable if anything is excellent or praiseworthy think about such things.

Our minds are so powerful. This scripture from Philippians in the bible implores us to fill our minds with thoughts that are good.

How often are we drawn to the negative though?

How often do we think about the worst case scenario rather than the best?

How often do we worry and think about all the things that could go wrong, rather than what could go right?

Positive thinking is not just a self help, new age trend, it has been around for thousands of years.

The differences between new age thinking and that of the bible however, is that new ageism implores us to empty our minds however scripture tells us to fill our minds with goodness.

Think on loveliness.

Think on what has gone right in your life rather than what is about to go wrong.

The reason why emptying our minds doesn’t work is because our minds are more powerful than any computer ever made.

To override the system operating our brains, we need to fight the original programming with new and more powerful content.

Ever tried to stop thinking about something?

Ever felt so overwhelmed at the strength of your mind?

It is impossible to think about nothing, if you are thinking about nothing you are still thinking about something.

So why not reprogram?

Reprogram with pure, noble, good, inspiring, commanding, helpful, loving, decent, brilliant, encouraging thoughts.

Replace
Meditate
Renew

Reengineer?

Possible.

The stability and strength of your mind will always alter what you creatively produce from it.

Your pack

Everyone longs to run with a pack.

We were created to do life as a community.

Wolves run in packs and so do healthy creatives.

You were not designed to do life alone.

Who is in your pack?

I spent the weekend tucked up inside a chapel.

One which took my breath away.

My husband and I looked at each and every hand made brick, we searched and thought about the massive rafters and we talked endlessly about who made this chapel.

This last weekend it was full of young adults. It created a sacred space for them to meet with God.

We wondered what the people who made the building would have thought if they found themselves transported forward to these precious moments?

The men and women who made the chapel, left a beautiful impression on a generation that is very quick to move into the now, the present, the plastic, the consumable.

This chapel at Fairbridge seriously amazing.

My husband and I could not work out, how possibly in the early 1900’s how they could have lifted the rafters and built this monster of a building without the machines we have today.

The answer is a pack.

A pack of men, banded together and created something overwhelming to the Glory of God.

What are you creating, that future generations will stand in awe of what you have built together?

What are you sacrificing today, so that tomorrow someone can live inspired?

Vulnerability

I have just come back from a retreat, it was amazing to have some space to think deeply about my weakness and that which I am struggling with. Yesterday I spoke at the retreat twice about emotional resilience and vulnerability.

My main message was called

Your Story
Black, White or Grey

Every person has a story.

We often try to make sense of that story by categorizing what has happened in our lives in black and white terms.

We try to come up with formulas to make sense of what happened and why it happened.

I have found in my life, most of the parts of my story have been more grey.

Not dark depressed grey, just a shade of grey and there often wasn’t a formula to make sense of the happenings.

I had to process through confession, community and counsel.

I had to find a way to own my story.

How about you?

Your story may be hard, it may be full of many secrets, it may be colorful or covered in grey.

Your story will always be unique.

Your story will always be unlike any one else’s story, because every one of us responds to difficulty and circumstance and opportunities in very different ways.

One of my favorites authors Brene Brown says it this way;

“Owning our story can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it. Embracing our vulnerabilities is risky but not nearly as dangerous as giving up on love and belonging and joy—the experiences that make us the most vulnerable. Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light.”

We need to own our story and I believe create out of that space. When we create out of a space that is focused on trying to please people, I believe our produce is full of flaws.

Creativity that comes from a shallow place will produce shallow results.

Creativity that has been tested and grounded in a vulnerable, open, real place will always be more accessible and always will impact the audience so much more.

Being vulnerable is risky.

Being vulnerable is a uncomfortable place.

But what if we were actually all vulnerable enough to say, yes I don’t have it all together and no I am not always okay but together we can walk out this story to a new land of possibility.

Own your story.

Breathe in and out deeply.

Find the peace you are looking for.

Hope in adversity
Peace in uncertainty

other worldliness

My Mum often comments that Max has a frown sometimes.

Not a frown as such but a quizzical look that he is deeply thinking about something.

I know what he’s doing, because he is part me, part my husband and part divine.

I know what he is doing, because I am often doing the same thing.

Thinking.

Dreaming.

Imagining.

An other worldliness comes upon him and he is completely lost in his own or something eternals presence.

Ever since he was a baby, whenever we have gone into a sacred space. Whether a church or a gymnasium that is used regularly to worship in, he would stare off and point to the rafters.

I am sure that he saw angels.

I am sure he saw things, that we as adults in our more mature and logical minds have lost the capacity to see.

Other worldliness.

A space of contemplation.

Space.

I think our DVD plasma rich worlds, take up the time and space to imagine, pray, meditate and dream.

Our children need more time to themselves.

Developing a healthy understanding of the possibilities beyond.

Another world.

An eternal one.

With golden places and beautiful deep longings.
