How to live a more satisfied 2018

How to live a more satisfied life

We are right on the precipice of a New Year and as 2018 comes to fruition, there is something very powerful about setting intentions and goals. We all understand the hope of a New Year, that is why we count down the evening, we accept invitations to friends parties and we hope tomorrow will be better. Unfortunately though, where we get stuck is dealing with the disappointment when life doesn’t go the way we planned.

Failure often holds us captive and we routinely blame it on unmet expectations. Living a deeply satisfied life often is coupled with living a life of intention. It is true that when you hope for something and it doesn’t plan out the way we expect it can be filled with resentment and disappointment, but living a life where we don’t review, let go and plan also asks that we surrender to monotony and apathy.

This year, what if you allowed yourself to dream again?

This year, what if you learnt lessons through failure rather than trapped by it?

This year, what if you accepted that places of your life that bring you unhappiness and acknowledge that is a very normal part of everyday life?

I have created a pro forma to help you write and let go this New Year. It is called New Days and it is available to download directly to your inbox, to print out and retreat this New Year. $9.95 AU, direct download available.

Happy New Year

2016 New Year Questions

new year front cover

One of my favourite traditions at this time of the year to set aside a day to reflect, recalibrate and set intentions for the coming year. Last year I enjoyed it so much that I started doing this with people one on one as solo private retreats.

This is a ritual I have done for over a decade. When I go back over the questions that I have asked myself and my responses, I see patterns and insight. I see opportunities and passions that come alive. I take time to ask myself the why before the how. I take time to be intentional about what I am giving my life too.

My dream to become a writer and publish books started with these questions.

The businesses we now own began whilst I took time to reflect and challenge my status quo.

Travel plans unravelled as I sought greater days that were to come and to stretch for.

Humility was provoked as I reminded myself of the places that held weakness.

Strength came to my character as I have reminded myself of what is important over what seems to be urgent.

Inspiration has arisen out of seasons where I was not sure any good could have come from them.

It doesn’t take much to prioritise what is important in this season of new.

Book in a date and time.

Print off the questions.

Find quiet and a place that inspires and write.

This year one of my favourite partners in creative crime Kym Basoka has painted original artwork to compliment my questions, to make this downloadable playbook even more inspiring. If you are looking for a personal original one off present this Christmas jump over and order yours today.

download your questions here…

Click this link for the playbook full of questions for free and if you live in Perth and would like to spend the day doing these questions with me click here to book a solo private retreat in for the beginning of 2016. Can you do me a favour?

If you have downloaded this for free, can you post about it somewhere on social media with the hashtag #inspire16 and invite your friends to join the reflection party?

Happy Nearly New Year,

I really do believe the best is yet to come.

#napkinseries

imageI was flying solo a couple of weeks ago to Sydney and I dug out a journal that I always used to write with, every time I flew.

It was a ritual.

I was on an aeroplane so often by myself that it became my high altitude muse.

As I leafed through these seasonal writings, it made me smile how many themes rolled from one year to another, but also how many themes fitted the exact season I was in.

I waited for my small, overcooked meal to come down the aisle and I lifted the journal to replace my tray and out tumbled some napkin drawings that made me smile.

Each beginning of the year as I travelled, I wrote on a single napkin, the one word I was to focus on in that year and brainstormed its output.

It was simple but it was revolutionary.

napkin series

This act distilled what I wanted to focus on in a creative way.

I have started a little napkin series and am encouraging you to do the same.

1) Find a cafe, restaurant, secret cubby house or a moment.

2) Find a nakin.

3) Find a sharpie.

4) Write one word that is necessary to focus on for this season.

5) Idea storm it.

6) hashtag #napkinseries for accountability.

A simple thought but profound one, if we actually do something with it.

Till we meet again.
