The real deal

20140708-172157-62517337.jpg

Sitting down for a quiet cup of tea with my husband as he goes off to nightshift, working with children who are the most despised in our society, he told me a little story from yesterday.

A storm has passed through our little town and the rain has been intense.

My husband quietly told me he saw a guy outside at the gym at 5.30am in the morning and he nodded at him.

It wasn’t until he had passed him that he realised he wasn’t wearing any shoes.

We are in the suburbs.

We’re not downtown Perth city.

We live in a seaside settlement, that many like to believe that people wearing no shoes and sleeping outside in winter don’t exist.

Back to the story, my husband walked back.

He turned around and asked the guy ‘Hey you doing okay?’

The guy said ‘Yeah, I’m all good.’

My man said ‘But your sleeping rough aren’t you?’

The shoeless guy said ‘Actually mate I am.’

So my husband put his gym bag down and pulled out his Nike gym trainers and gave them to his new friend.

The guy responded ‘Na, mate they’re too good for me.’

My husband explained to me, they’re not even his favourite shoes and he wished he had his best ones.

Then my man said to his nameless friend ‘You want some food?’

He said ‘Na, I’m all good.’

Then my husband said ‘No mate, I’ll get you some.’, so he drove through takeaway and bought him as much breakfast as he could, went back to his new friend, gave him food and then pulled a jumper from his car and gave the guy one of his hoodies.

My husband’s new friend said to him ‘I’ll never forget your face man.’

My man replied ‘Don’t remember mine, remember Jesus’s, he’s the one whose changed my life.’

Then my husband drove to work.

I’m telling you this story not so I can brag on my husband, but to hopefully inspire you, that it’s actually not that hard to help someone in need.

Loyal people still exist.

Quiet moments when people actually do what they say they believe.

Man, I am so grateful I waited for this amazing husband, father and friend.

He honestly is the real deal.

Unwritten

20140707-170306-61386392.jpg

I am so aware that I am living in unwritten days.

Those quiet ones before a big change occurs.

I have been quiet of late, if I was completely honest a little fearful, a little doubtful and lots of thoughts.

I have been preparing myself for a new person to enter our world, but at the same time feeling grateful for time to process big transitions.

I have been writing my next book a lot more lately, but that means I have been a little quieter on the blog front.

I’ve also been spending less time online and doing my best to be more present for my family who are also feeling the pangs of change in our midst.

A new chapter in our life is about to be written.

I can feel deeply it’s potential and also feel afraid of it’s unknown.

Always seeking
Nearly trusting
Beautifully resting

Life as I know it is about to be undone again.

Excited and Terrified!

the free woman

the free woman

A few years ago I was contacted a young woman about her passion for writing after reading my first book capture 30 days.

Her name was Bethany Morris.

She is now 23 years old.

bethany morris

A creative soul, a lover of all things wordy and she is delightful.

Living in Melbourne, loving life and all that it brings.

Earlier this year, Bethany wrote again telling me about a new project that she was working on called The Free Woman.

I have been eagerly awaiting her new adventure and today an interview that I did with Bethany about writing, creativity and inspiration went live.

Check out her little place in this wide old internet frontier.

I am always so excited about creative people (especially young women) getting out there and just having an amazing go!

Always

Knitting all things together for good.

20140629-134819-49699436.jpg

I have been in a nesting haze lately and somedays I wish I had a studio to retreat to, somewhere I can leave my creative bits and bobs and a two year old won’t touch them.

Space is our arch nemesis.

Storage is our promised land.

Other days I am overwhelmed with gratitude that I have a little shack to call my own and I am able to stay home with my toddler with no stress about rushing back to full time work just so I can make our mortgage repayments.

On these days I thrive on thoughts about the simple life, making my own butter and taking another load down to our local op shop.

I declutter.

I breathe.

I am thankful.

We all have these contradictions in our world.

One day we feel supremely grateful, the next overwhelmed and frustrated.

We each have moments of bliss and then moments of stretch and tangle.

A little like crochet or knitting.

There are moments where we love the rhythm and the finished product and learning a new pattern. Then the day comes when we make mistakes, we drop stitches and create holes, we give up and throw the project in the back of the cupboard, vowing never to look at it again.

I love this thought.

Whatever is happening in your world, I believe that God is interweaving it into a tapestry of beauty that brings glory to Him.

The good.

The bad.

The frustrating.

The overwhelming.

The annoying.

The brilliant.

The excellent.

Everything.

He uses it all.

So if you are frustrated and feel ashamed about this today, I promise it is being brought together for good.

One day, one moment and you will look back and gain perspective on this season of your life.

Someday.
